Homage to Catalonia

The Book, ‘Homage to Catalonia’, which was published in 1938 is an autobiographical account of George Orwell’s experience in the Spanish Civil War as a volunteer for the Republicans.

Orwell and his wife enlisted in the Workers’ Party of Marxist Unification (Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista; POUM), unlike other foreign intellectual leftists that enrolled for the International Brigades. The book gives an account of both his advertences of the daily travails of a soldier and his disenchantment with totalitarianism and political infighting.
